Coming only once a year, the holiday season is a wonderful opportunity to give to those you love and those in need. Here at The Family Fun Center, we’re hosting a very special Christmas in July Toy Drive to celebrate our amazing community and give back to a local charity. From Friday, July 24^th through Sunday, July 26^th, Family Fun Center is celebrating Christmas in July with a toy drive benefitting Peace River Center here in Lakeland. When you bring in a new, unwrapped toy, you’ll receive a FREE attraction! The toys will be donated to the center’s Resiliency Team which works with children birth to 17 years old who have been diagnosed with a mental health disability. 

The clients of the Resiliency Team vary in age and each have specific needs and require different techniques and “tools” during their sessions. The Peace River Center is looking for specific donations in the form of games and craft supplies that will benefit a variety of clients. A few examples of requested donations are games like Uno Cards, Jenga, Sorry, Monopoly and Connect Four and craft supplies like glitter glue, construction paper, play dough and pipe cleaners.

The games are often given as a reward for positive behavior and meeting behavior goals. The craft supplies are often used to build sensory toys for children and adolescents that experience anxiety. The Peace River Center’s Resiliency Team provides in-home visits and treatment centered on improving mental health and family dynamics. Wash your hands

Be sure to wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If you are able, use hand sanitizer in between playing games! Try to avoid touching your face and if you do, make sure your hands are clean. Our employees will be washing their hands regularly and sanitizing games, kiosks, restrooms and all other surfaces throughout the day.

Keep your distance

Maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from other individuals or groups. Multi-player games should only be played with those in your immediate party.  Our staff will be shutting down select games and removing a few tables to encourage social distancing.

Cover your nose and mouth

Family Fun Center staff will be wearing masks while working to keep the facility clean. Masks are not required for guests but you are more than welcome to wear them. If you do not wear a mask, remain aware and be respectful of others around you.

Avoid unnecessary touching

It can be hard, but try to avoid unnecessary touching of surfaces such as countertops, tables and games when not in use.  Family Fun Center is offering gloves to guests who prefer to use them when playing games.

Stay home if you are sick

If you are not feeling well, we ask you to not participate and encourage your family members to also not participate until you are feeling better. Any Family Fun Center staff will be asked to stay home if they are not feeling well.

By following these guidelines and practicing healthy habits, we can all help to keep each other safe. Our closing hours have been adjusted to allow for extra nightly cleaning and sanitation and Funtasia will remain closed until further notice.  Be sure to check our website and social media pages for any updates to our hours and operations. The Family Fun Center is a place where there’s plenty of fun to be had and everyone is welcome. Our team at the Fun Center in Lakeland is holding Sensational Sundays once a month February – May, August, September, October and December for families with sensory-sensitive children. For many of these children, enjoying certain experiences can be challenging especially when surrounded by bright lights, loud sounds and big crowds.  During Sensational Sundays, Family Fun Center will make special accommodations so that all can enjoy the fun. Each Sensational Sunday, Family Fun Center will open at 10:30am specifically for sensory-sensitive children. This allows guests to enjoy the Funtasia play area, arcade and other family activities before the crowds arrive. During this time, the Fun Center will turn down the lights and music and our trained staff will be standing by for any needed assistance.

Sensational Sunday participants will have the opportunity to use their Fun Cards to play games by themselves or with a friend. The more games you play, the more e-tickets you collect on your Fun Card. Cash in your e-tickets at the Fun Center redemption counter to pick out and take home your very own prize! Also open during Sensational Sunday is the Funtasia play area where guests can climb, crawl through tunnels, splash in the ball pit and navigate obstacle courses.

At noon, the Family Fun Center will be open to the general public and at that time you can stay and play, head on out, play games, or grab some lunch at Cappy’s Pizza Café. Although Sensational Sunday concludes at noon, all-day play is included in your admission if you wish to stay or even come back later in the day.

According to a study in 2000, eating together can even make you and your family healthier!
